 Page 51   Wednesday November 16 th

 Then the Court adjourned until 10 o'clock tomorrow.

 Thursday morning the Court met according to adjournment.

Present: William Johnson , Philemon Hawkins , Young McLemore , John Macon , and Joseph Hawkins , Esquires.

 Ordered that a baseborn boy, by the name of Moses Acre , aged nine years old be bound to Jethro Sumner , Esquire, until he attain to the age of twenty-one years, his said master, to learn him letters and writing and the business of husbandry.

 Ordered that Duke Bennett , a baseborn child born of the body of Mary Bennett , being 8 years old the ninth day of May next, to be bound to Reuben Bennett  until he attain to the age of twenty-0ne years, his said master to learn him to read, write and the planter business.

 Ordered that John Macon , Esquire, be Overseer of the road from Mr. Ransom's mill  pond to Well's Branch , and that he clear and keep the same in repair with the hands of Young McLemore , Amey Ransom , Benjamin Kimbell , Joseph Martin  and his own hands.

 Ordered that Gideon Hunt Macon  be Overseer of the road from Solomon Alston 's to Mr. Ransom's mill  pond and that he keep the same in repair with the usual hands.

 Ordered that the Collector pay Thomas Machen , Clerk of this Court, the sum of two hundred pounds for extra services performed by him as clerk.

 Page 52   Wednesday November 16 th

 An account current of the Estate of Henry Foote , deceased, was exhibited into Court by Henry Shearin  and wife, Executors of the said deceased, and the same being examined by the Court was allowed and ordered to be recorded.

 Ordered that it be recommended to the General Assembly in favor of William Wilson , who has for want of knowledge in the laws, an invalid slave which is interlay useless, the tax of which slave amounted to fifty pounds.

 Ordered that John Macon  and William House  procession all the land in Capt. Fussell's District  according to law.

 Ordered that Robert Jones  and Green Duke  procession all the land in Capt. Wren's District  according to law.

 Ordered that Henry Shearin  and Ludson Worsham  procession all the lands in Capt. Strudivant's District  according to law.

 Ordered that Thomas Harton  and William Wilson  procession all the lands in Capt. Colclough's District  according to law.

 Ordered that Thomas Christmas  and Marmaduke Johnson  procession all the lands in Capt. William Christmas ' District according to law.

 Ordered that John Potter  and Matthew Wood  procession all the lands in Capt. Twitty's District  according to law.

 Ordered that Joseph Shearin  and Daniel Sledge  procession all the lands in Capt. Clanton's District  on the south side of Roanoke River , and that John White  and George Webb  do procession all the lands in the said Clanton's District north of said river according to law.

 Ordered that Nathaniel Harris  and Sterling Harris  procession all the lands in the upper of Capt. Harris' District  according to law.

 Ordered that William Burrow  and John Newell  procession all the lands in the lower part of Capt. Harris' District  according to law.

 Ordered that William Powell  and William Cooper  procession all the lands in Capt. Weathers' District  according to law.

 Ordered that William Williams  and Richard Ward  procession all the lands in Capt. Cox's District  according to law.

 Ordered that the Sheriff summon Thomas Clack , Miles Bobbitt , John Duke , Thomas Green , James Johnson , Solomon Williams , Samuel Williams , Willoughby Tillery , Daniel Ball , John Christmas , William Darnal , Joseph Mangom , William Land , John Dinkins , Joseph Darnal , John Cauthorn , Dawson Vanlandigham , John Ellington , Twitty Russell , Henry Fitts , John Hicks , Richard Towns , John Moseley , Francis Thornton , Anthony Haynes , Eldrige Clack , Thomas Miller  Jr., James Nicholson  Jr., Urbane Nicholson , and Obed Green , to appear at next Court as Jury.

 Ordered that William Wilson  be Overseer of the road from Thomas Miller 's to Hub Quarter Creek  in the room of Aaron Shearin , and ordered that he keep the same in repair with the hands usually working thereon.

 Ordered that Philemon Hawkins , Young McLemore , and John Macon , Esquires, or any two of them audit and adjust the accounts of Thomas Person , Administrator to Benjamin Person , deceased, also Guardian to Benjamin Brown Person , deceased, and report the same to the Court.

 Ordered that Thomas Merritt , Reuben Bennett  be recommended to the General Assembly as being proper objects to be relieved from paying public taxes.

 Then the Court adjourned until Court in course.

 Page 54   Wednesday November 2 nd

 At a Court called and held at Warren Courthouse in Warrenton on the 2 nd day of November 1780 for the trial of London,  a Negro slave, belonging to Christopher Robertson , being brought before the Court by a warrant from under the hand of Young McLemore , Esquire, being accused of stealing from James Ball Twenty-five  dollars.  The said Negro London being arraigned pleaded not guilty, the said James Ball  and Thomas Christmas .  Evidence for the state being sworn and examined against the prisoner.  The Court here are of opinion that the said Negro London is not guilty of the crime wherewith he stand charged and that he be hence discharged and that the prosecutor pay fees.
