 Page 25   Wednesday May 10 th

 Richard Hamlet  made oath to his account for attendance, as a witness for John Alston  against Thomas Eaton  amounting to £17.0.3.

 Ordered that the hands belonging to Nathaniel Macon  work on the road whereof Thomas Reeves  is Overseer.

 Edwin Harris made oath to his account for attendance, as a witness for Thomas Eaton  at the suit of John Alston  amounting to £20.

 Claiborn Harris  made oath made oath to his account for attendance, as a witness for Thomas Eaton  at the suit of John Alston  amounting to £24.

 Hunt Macon  made oath to his account for attendance, as a witness for William Weldon  at the suit of William Myrick  amounting to £12.

 John Dowdon  made oath to his account for attendance, as a witness for William Myrick  at the suit of William Wilson  amounting to £20.

 Then the Court adjourned until tomorrow 10 o'clock.

 Thursday morning the Court met according to adjournment.

Present William Johnson , Thomas Tanner , James Paine , and John Falcom , Esquires.

 A Deed from Twitty Russell  to David Moss  was proved by the oath of William Price , a witness thereto, and Ann , the wife of the said Twitty being first privately examined relinquished her right of dower in the said lands, the same was ordered to be registered.

 Page 26   Thursday  May 11 th

 Mills vs Shell - Petitioned Jurors (to wit) William Balthrop , Nathaniel Baxter , John White , (Fishing Creek) Matthew Duke , John White , Samuel Thompson , William Hill , John Todd , Obed Green , James Thompson , James Jordan , and William Wortham .  The suit by consent is discontinued.

 Thomas Swinney , Plaintiff vs William Douglas , Defendant - Petition Jurors (to wit) Green Duke , John Moseley , Richard Ward , William Wortham , Matthew Duke , John White  (Fishing Creek), William Hill , Obed Green , and Robert Smith .  The above Jury sworn and do find a verdict for the Plaintiff for £10.5 plus costs.

 Anne Fain , widow, and relict of Joel Fain , deceased, was qualified as an Executrix to the said deceased, will.

 An Inventory of the Estate of Joel Fain , deceased, was returned into Court by the Executrix on oath, and is ordered to be recorded.

 John Moseley  made oath for Thomas Swinney  against William Douglas  amounting to £31.19.

 William Balthrop  made oath to his account for attendance, as a witness for Thomas Swinney  against William Douglas  amounting to £34.17.

 Robert Williams  and Sarah , his wife (she being first privately examined and thereto consenting) acknowledged a Deed to Askenas Williams  and his motion the same is ordered to be registered.

 Page 27   Thursday May 11 th

 Askenas Williams  and Amey , his wife (she being first privately examined thereto and consenting) acknowledged a Deed to Nimrod Williams , at whose motion the same is ordered to be registered.

 Ordered that John White  be Overseer of the road from Col. Hawkins' to Caller's Ordinary, and that he keep the same in repair with the hands usually working thereon.

 Ordered that William Green  be Overseer of the road called the Purchase Patent road to the fork near John Carroll 's, and that he keep the same in repair with the usual hands.

 Ordered that Nathaniel Baxter  be Overseer of the road from the fork near Carroll's into the old road that leads from William Park 's to Mr. Miller's and that he keep the same in repair with his own hands and the hands of William Roberts  and James Wheelers.

 William Clanton  made oath to his account for attendance, as a witness for Stephen Shell  at the suit of Fanny Miller , amounting to £32.5.8.

 Frankey Clanton  made oath to her accounts for attendance, as a witness for Fanny Miller  against Stephen Shell , amounting to £30.15.4.

 James Cheatam , a witness for Fanny Miller  against Stephen Shell , made oath to his accounts for attendance amounting to £25.10.

 Edward Clanton  made oath to his account for attendance, as a witness for Stephen Shell  at the suit of Fanny Miller , amounting to £30.15.8.

 Easter Forrest  made oath to his account for attendance, as a witness for Frances Miller  against Stephen Shell  amounting to £22.8.8.

 Ordered that the road Petitioned for to be turned by James Thompson  and William Hill  be discontinued.

 Then the Court adjourned until tomorrow 10 of the clock.

 Friday morning the Court met according to adjournment.

Present William Johnson , Philemon Hawkins , Thomas Tanner , James Paine , Young McLemore , and Daniel Sledge , Esquires.

 A Deed from William Gibreath  to Richard Inge , was proved by the oath of Thomas Dance  and John Inge , witnesses thereto, and on motion the same is ordered to be registered.

 An account of the sale of the Estate of John Twitty , deceased, was returned into Court by the Sheriff on oath and the same is ordered to be recorded.

 Ordered that William Christmas , Deputy Sheriff, be allowed twelve pounds for purchasing a ballot box for the use of the County.

 John Willis  is appointed Overseer of the road from Macon's corner to the Courthouse or Thomas Christmas ', and that he clear and keep the same in repair with the hands usually working thereon.

 Page 29   Friday    May 12 th

 Ordered that a road be laid out from the road near John Duke 's, the most convenient was along the ridge path into the new road, that is ordered to be laid out leading towards Green's Ford, and ordered that the same be viewed and laid out by the following Jury (to wit) John Duke , William Park , Matthew Duke , John Emmerson , Lewis Bobbitt , Richard Maddry , Reuben Weathers , Matthew Davis , William Cheek , Randolph Hazilwood , Peter Davis , Peter Swinney , Charles Sansing , James Sansing , Honorias Powell , and John Cheek  that they be summoned to make a Jury to lay out the said road and that Matthew Duke  be Overseer and that the same be opened and cleared with the hands of the said Duke, ,John Emmerson 's, Widow Duke's, William Howard 's, Matthew Davis ', John Kicker 's, John Heathcock 's, Reuben Weathers 's, Richard Maddry 's, Buckner Maddry 's, Joshua Capps ', Phillip Johnson  and Lewis Bobbitt 's, and also keep the old road from the new road up to Mr. Park's shop.

 Ordered that Young McLemore , Esquire, take the list of assignment in Capt. Fussell's District  and that Philemon Hawkins , Esquire, take the list of assignments in Capt. Nichols' District  and James Basket , John Bowdon , and William Clemment  be appointed assessors of the same and that Daniel Vaulx , Constable, summon the Inhabitants to give a list of their assessable property to the said Justices.

 Page 30   Friday    May 11 th

 Ordered that John Hawkins , Esquire, take the list of assignments in Capt. Philemon Hawkins 's District and that Phillip Burford , Esquire, take the list of assignments in Capt. Strudivant's District  and that (blank line) be appointed assessors of the same, and John Pope  summon the Inhabitants in Strudivant's District and that Thomas Wilson  summon the Inhabitants in Philemon Hawkins 's District to give a list of their assessable property.

 Ordered that James Paine , Esquire, take the list of assignment in Capt. Colclough's District  and that Isaac Acre , Constable, summon the Inhabitants to give in a list of their assessable property to him.

 Ordered that Daniel Sledge , Esquire, take the list of assessable in Capt. Edward Clanton 's District that lies on the south side of Roanoke River  and that Herbert Hayes , Esquire, the list of assessable on the north side of the said river in the said Clanton's District  and that Isaac Acre , Constable, summon the Inhabitants in the said District to give a list of assessable  property and that James Nicholson , Francis Thornton , and Edward Clanton  be assessors in the said Colclough's and Clanton's District .

 Ordered that John Faulcon , Esquire, take the list of assessable property in Capt. William Burrow 's District  and that Samuel Harper , Constable, summon the Inhabitants in the said District to give in the same, and that Thomas Turner , Esquire, take the list of assignment in Capt. John Weathers 's District and that Francis Capps , Constable, summon all the Inhabitants.

 Page 31   Friday    May 11 th

 In the said District  to give the same and that Jesse Person , Josiah Green , and William Jean  be and are hereby appointed assessors in the same District.

 Ordered that Edward Jones , Esquire, take the list of assessable property in Capt. Peter Cox 's District  and that Solomon Hunter , summon the Inhabitants in the said District to give in the same, and ordered that William Johnson , Esquire, take the list of assessable property in Capt. Thomas Christmas ' District, and that Thomas Jinkins  be appointed Constable in the said District to give in the same, and that Isaac Hunter , James Johnson , and Hugh Hayes  be and they are hereby appointed assessors in the above District.

 On motion ordered that Daniel Sledge , Esquire, be exempt form paying a tax on a Negro named James  of the value of £700 for one year to come.

 William Christmas , Deputy Sheriff, came into Court and settled his account for his collection and the same being examined by the said Court and allowed and ordered to be recorded.

 On motion ordered that Benjamin Ward , Esquire, be exempted from paying a tax on a Negro named Will  to the value of £700.

 On motion ordered that William Powell  be exempt from paying a tax on a Negro named Judy  to the value of £700.

 On motion ordered that Mary Morris  be exempt from paying a tax on a foolish lame Negro.

 Page 32   Friday    May 13 th

 Jurors appointed to attend at next Court (to wit) James House , Joseph Mangom , Joseph Pardue , Dawson Vanlandigham , John Dinkins , John Cauthorn , William Burrow , John Newell , David Fluker , John Weathers , John Cheek , Peter Davis , Thomas Green , Thomas Cheek , Lewis Bobbitt , Matthew Duke , John Duke , John Colclough , Adam Milam,  Henry Fitts , Willoughby Fann , Ludson Worsham , Nathaniel Fitts , Michael Harris , Joseph Shearin , William Vasser , Eldrige Clack , Aaron Fussell , Daniel Burrow , and John Hawkins, Jr.

 Ordered that Richard Bush , James Robinson , and Asa Bishop  be searchers in Capt. Peter Cox ' District.

 Then the Court adjourned until Court in Course.

 At a Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions held for the County of Warren at Warrenton on the second Monday in August being the 14 th day thereof 1780.

Present: Daniel Sledge , Young McLemore , and Edward Jones , Esquires.

 A Deed from Robert Caller Jr . to Charles Caller , was proved by the oath of Robert Caller , a witness thereto, and on motion the same is ordered to be registered.

 John Macon  acknowledged a Deed to Young McLemore , Esquire, at whose motion the same is ordered to be registered.
