Page 17   Friday    February 18 th

  Ordered that Samuel Harper  be Overseer of the road from Bobbitt's Branch to Jones' Fork, and that he keep the same in repair, with the hands usually working thereon, as divided between the said Harper and John Bobbitt , Overseer of the upper part of the road to Person' fork.

 A Supplementary Inventory of the Estate of Benjamin Brown Person , deceased, was returned into Court by John Faulcon , Esquire, his Administrator on oath, as had come to his hands since last Court and on motion the same is Ordered to be recorded.

 Ordered that Thomas Miller , James Miller , and Robert Jones  be Commissioners of the confiscated property in the County, and that they be summoned to appear at the next Court to be qualified.

 Then the Court adjourned until the Court in course.

 Tuesday morning the Court met according to adjournment.

Present: William Johnson , Phillip Burford , and Young McLemore , Esquires.

 The sale of the Estate of George Tucker , deceased, was returned into Court by Leu Tucker , the Executor on oath, and the same was ordered to be recorded.

 Ordered that John Ellington , Richard Coleman , and Peter Coleman  be searchers in Smith's District.

 A Deed from Edward Green  to William Green , was proved by the oath of William Johnson , a witness thereto, and on motion the same is ordered to be registered.

 A Deed from Edward Green  to Obed Green , was proved by the oath of Nathaniel Baxter , a witness thereto, and on motion was ordered to be registered.

 A Deed from Edward Green  to Edmond Green , was proved by the oath of Nathaniel Baxter , a witness thereto, and on motion the same was ordered to be registered

 A Deed form Benjamin Pickrill  to Jeremiah Bush , was proved by the oath of Peter Jackson , a witness thereto, and on motion the same was ordered to be registered.

 A Deed from Sarah Williams  to James Jones , was proved by the oath of Nathaniel Macon , a witness thereto, and on motion the same was ordered to be registered.

 A Deed from James Hills  and Christina , his wife, to James Harris , was proved by the oath of Thomas Miller  Jr., a witness thereto, and on motion the same is ordered to be registered.

 A Deed from James Egerton  and Martha Egerton  to James Harris , was proved by the oath of Thomas Miller  Jr., a witness thereto, and on motion the same is ordered to be registered.

 Daniel Thomas  and Winifred , his wife, (she being first privately examined and thereto consenting) acknowledged a Deed to Mary Dent , at whose motion the same is ordered to be registered.

 James Dozier  and Mary , his wife, (she being first privately examined and thereto consenting) acknowledged a Deed to Richard Marshall , at whose motion the same is ordered to be registered.

 The Grand Jury for the body of this County sworn (to wit) Isaac Hunter , foreman, Nathaniel Macon , William Myrick , Jesse Person , William Jean , James Johnson , Nathaniel Baxter , John Lawter , James Emmerson , Matthew Davis , Edward Holliman , William Noyal Norsworthy , Charles Daniel , John Green , James Sledge , Reece Brewer , and James Thompson  having received their charge withdrew.

 Askenas Williams  acknowledged a Deed to William Pardue , and on motion the same is ordered to be registered.

 John Hreckney  made oath to his accounts for attendance, as a witness for William Powell  against Robert Hightower , amounting to twelve pounds.

 Page 20   Tuesday   May 9 th

 A Deed from William Rowland  to Jordan Rowland , was proved by the oath of William Rowland Jr ., a witness thereto, and on motion the same is ordered to be registered.

 A Deed from William Darnal  to Philemon Beckham , was proved by the oath of Young McLemore  Esquire, a witness thereto, and on motion the same is ordered to be registered.

 A Deed from William Darnal  to Young McLemore,  Esquire, was proved by the oath of Philemon Beckham , a witness thereto, and on motion is ordered to be registered.

 A Deed from Brittian Williford  to Josiah Green , was proved by the oath of Sterling Harris , a witness thereto, and on motion is ordered to be registered.

 Nimrod Williams  and Amey , his wife, (she being first examined and thereto consenting) acknowledged a Deed to John Tanner , at whose motion the same is ordered to be registered.

 Martha Tucker , orphan of Georgia Tucker , deceased, came into Court and made choice of Edward Davis , her Guardian who with Leu Tucker , his security, entered into and executed bond for this purpose.

 In the suit depending in this Court between Alexander Colclough , Plaintiff, and William Colclough , Defendant, ordered on the motion of the Defendant that a Dedimus issue to take the deposition of William Ellrey , Gent of Virginia .

 Page 21   Tuesday   May 9 th

 Administration on the Estate of William Powell Jr.,  deceased, is granted to Susannah Powell  and William Cheek , her security, entered into and executed a bond for that purpose, and Letters of Administration granted to her.

 The Inventory of the Estate of William Powell  Jr., was returned by Susannah Powell , his Administrix, on oath and ordered to be recorded.

 Ordered that the Sheriff sell the perishable Estate of William Powell Jr.,  deceased, between this and next Court according to law.

 Then the Court adjourned until tomorrow 10 o'clock.

 Wednesday morning the Court met according to adjournment.

Present: William Johnson , William Alston , and John Hawkins , Esquires.

 A Deed from John Riggon  to Joseph Shearin , was proved by the oath of John Durham , a witness thereto, and on motion the same is ordered to be registered.

 The Inventory of the Estate of Thomas Robins , deceased, was returned into Court by William Robins , the Administrator on oath, and ordered to be recorded.

 On motion James Emmerson  is appointed Guardian to John Oliver , orphan to Richard Oliver , deceased, John Hawkins , Phillip Burford , and Joshua Mabry  are appointed to divide the Negroes belonging to the Estate of Richard Oliver , deceased, between the widow and the orphan, and allow the widow one third of the said Negroes and report to next Court.

 Page 22   Wednesday May 10 th

 On the application of Unity Coleman , for leave not to list, in her account of assessment, a Negro boy named Jesse  for this present year he being a cripple.  Ordered that the same be granted to her.

 Ordered that a baseborn child named Lucy Gwyn , born of the body of Betty Gwyn , aged seven years the 11 th of last February, be bound to William Gwyn  and wife until she attain the age of 10 years, the said Gwyn and wife to learn her to read and the business of housekeeping.

 Joel Wren , Plaintiff, vs William Kellow , Defendant, - Petition Jurors (to wit) Benjamin Ellis , William Hill , Joel Harris , John Cheek , Peter Davis , William Wortham , John White , Robert Jones , Silas Jordan , Moses Myrick , Jonathan Davis , and Nimrod Williams  first being sworn do find a verdict for the Plaintiff for £18.13. damages and costs.

 John Alston , Plaintiff, against Thomas Eaton,  Esquire, Defendant - The former Petitioned jury.  The Jury being first sworn do find a verdict for the Defendant £200 damages and costs.

 Page 23   Wednesday May 10 th

 A Deed from John Prince  to Luck Key , was proved by the oath of Agrippa Nichols , a witness thereto, and on motion the same is ordered to be registered.

Ordered that the road from Fishing Creek  bridge, turning out at Peter Davis ' fence to come into the road by William Green 's house at the fork of the road, be viewed and laid out according to the report of the following Jury (to wit) Edmond Kerney , Josiah Green , James Sledge , William Powell , Francis Capps , John Weathers , William Cheek , Peter Davis , William Cooper , Richard Acock , John Cheek , Charles Sansing , Richard Bennett  William Alston , Charles Daniel , John Thompson , and Jordan Rowland , or any twelve of them, and that the same be opened and cleared, be the hands belonging to William Alston , Esquire,

Edmond Kerney , William Powell , William Cooper , James Sledge , Francis Capps , Anne Person , Jesse Person , Richard Bennett , and John Weathers  and that William Powell  be Overseer of the said road, and that when opened and cleared that the old road be stopped up.

John Pardue  and Judith , his wife, (she being first privately examined and thereto consenting) acknowledged a Deed to John Tanner , at whose motion the same is ordered to be registered.

William Myrick  vs William Wilson  and others the former Petition Jurors except William Rowland , in the room of Moses Myrick , being sworn do find for the defendant.

Page 24   Wednesday May 10 th

Ordered that Nathaniel Macon , Francis Thornton , and Joseph Shearin  let a bridge to be built over Hub Quarter Creek  to the lowest undertaker and report the same to the next Court.

Thomas Eaton , Esquire, is recommended to his Excellency the Governor as a proper person to execute the office of Sheriff in this County the ensuing year.

Daniel Jones  made oath to his account of attendance, as a witness, for John Alston  against Thomas Eaton  amounting to £24.0.

A Deed from Matthew Nicholson  to Benjamin Tarver , was proved by the oath of Ludson Worsham , a witness thereto, and on motion the same is ordered to be registered.

Ordered that Jacob Cooper , William McInvail , and James Powell  be searchers in Capt. John Weathers 's District.

Morris Pardue  made oath to his account for attendance, as a witness for John Alston  against Thomas Eaton  amounting to £16.16.

John Roberts  made oath to his account for attendance, as a witness for John Alston  against Thomas Eaton  amounting to £9.4.

John Griggs  made oath to his account for attendance, as a witness for John Alston  against Thomas Eaton  amounting to £17.3.

William Marcus  made oath to his account for attendance, as a witness for John Alston  against Thomas Eaton  amounting to £20.

Nelson Harris  made oath to his account for attendance, as a witness for Thomas Eaton  at the suit of John Alston  amounting to £24.
