FTP Access for Long Directory Names

FAQ   Standard  Deluxe    Mammoth   Policies

Configuring Your Server:

If you want to add an FTP account to allow access to /www/ directories with more than 8 characters, do the following:

1- Add a POP/FTP user (username <=8 characters)

To Add users, use the vadduser command from either a telnet prompt or from http://www.YourDomain.com/cgi-bin/admin/gateway.cgi

Let's assume you create an account called account1, this will also create a directory called /www/htdocs/account1/ which you can remove if you wish.

2- Manually edit ONLY the path in the /etc/passwrd file as follows, replacing the short directory path with the long directory path (account1 to account1longname)

account1:EncryptedPassword.:302:101:Account Name:/usr/local/etc/httpd/htdocs/account1:ftp,1
account1:EncryptedPassword.:302:101:Account Name:/usr/local/etc/httpd/htdocs/account1longname:ftp,1
