Most Deaths during winter storms are due to the following:
These deaths in large part could be avoided by slowing down and
living life at a more gentle pace during the winter months. Is
there really a vital need that you be to work the same time as
always when the roads are icy? Is attending your daughters recital
more important than your safety? Will their really be any long
term damage to your social club if you don't show up. Will having
snow on your driveway hurt you in any way?
Any time you go out on slick roads during the winter, you are
putting yourself and others at risk. If you are not capable of
living at a more gentle pace, for whatever reason, here are some
suggestions for your safety.
| Drive slower | The world will not end for the rest of us if you show up late for a business meeting, but it might end for you if you drive too fast for the road conditions. |
| Wear sufficiently warm clothing | Go ahead and wear a hat, mess up your hair. It's much better to be warm and have messed up hair than it is to have a beautiful hairdo and be dead. So what if boots look silly. It's better to look silly than to be frostbitten. |
