Stories about Edmund Albert Thompson

As told to James W. Thompson by his father James C. Thompson.

In Edmund's younger years, he received a hand gun from a Sheriff. This gun was rumored to have belonged to a "Bad Man" to kill people with. It was a 6 shot revolver with a hair trigger (very touchy), and had notches in the handle. Edmund kept the gun around until Ira and some of the other boys became older. He was then afraid the boys would hurt themselves with the gun and decided to get ride of it. He rode his horse into the Escalante desert and left the gun on a broken tree limb.

Once Edmund was traveling through Arizona, and while crossing the desert, he happened along another rider. Edmund felt the man was heavily armed, but as there was safety in numbers, due to Indian trouble in the area, the two teamed up and rode together. They continued their journey and separated when they came to a small town just across the Utah border. Edmund proceeded to a boarding house. While he was checking in at the boarding house he heard some shots. Edmund discovered that the gentleman that he had rode into town with had been involved in a shoot-out with an outlaw. The rumor was that Wyatt Earp had just rode into town. Edmund believed that he rode into that town with Wyatt Earp.

Edmund also helped bring in the first Combine (Machinery to harvest Wheat.) into the town of Boulder, Utah. It was broken down into segments and carried in on pack mules.
