Margaret Lucinda Smith

by Ruby Moore

Iris has asked me to write a little about Aunt Maggie (Margaret Smith Littlefield Barker) I don't have the records of her first marriage to Angus Littlefield, but to this union a daughter, Marilla was born, March 24, 1909. After Angus passed away she married William Barker.

I'll have to tell this little story, My niece Keela, a little girl about 14 years old said to Aunt Maggie, "Aunt Mag, how did you meet Uncle William ?" she answered, "Oh I went gawking over to Escalante, met William and married him." Auntie was such a cute little lady and was such a jolly, easy going person.

Iris and I were going to Escalante to visit our sister Flora. We asked Aunt Maggie to ride over with us, she hadn't been feeling very well and said she didn't feel like going. Ammon her son said "Oh maw get your suit on and go with the girls." After a little more persuasion she decided to go. Flora was baking bread so she made us a cup of tea and we had hot bread and butter with jam. (umm so good!) When we got home that evening and helped Auntie in, she said, "Thank you girls for making me go with you, I really have enjoyed this day and I love you very very much." She passed away soon after.
