Directions: 

    State Highway 102 is the main road that runs through Penrose.  A wooden sign is located at the entrance to the small road leading west to the cemetery

History:

    About 1900, the Thatcher Branch set aside and surveyed land in Penrose for a cemetery. Although it was situated in Penrose, it was called the "Thatcher Cemetery."  Two children, who died from diphtheria in 1906, were some of the first people to be buried in this cemetery.  

    The cemetery was maintained by both Thatcher and Penrose until Thatcher joined Bothwell in a joint community cemetery.  Since that time, Penrose alone has been responsible for the cemetery.  A cemetery district was formed, lot owners were assessed $50, and the cemetery was landscaped -- complete with grass and an irrigation system.  The cemetery is now very well maintained.
