Summit County (UT) Genealogical Queries

A genealogical query is a short statement describing your interest in a particular topic, geographic area, family, or family line. Queries will be read by others and hopefully generate additional assistance as other Summit County reseachers supply you with new information via e-mail. A query should include as much helpful information about your research interest as possible, while also being succinct and brief. Add a query to the list below by using the Query Entry Form.

Gilbert H. Hallett born 1837 in New York. Family history says he died in Park City in 1882 but I have found nothing to confirm it. He married Eliza Lavender and they had 8 kids, somewhere between Park City & Ogden. They had kids that died in 1876, 1879, 1881, 1883, & 1892 but I find no trace of them either.

I am looking for any information regarding Asenith Lawrence who married Isaac S. Potter about 1854. I found she went to UT on the Robert Wimmer (wagon train) Company in 1852. She is listed as Acenith Lawrence (no other Lawrences), with an unknown birth date. Although she is supposed to have married Isaac Potter, she is not listed in his household for 1860. I've seen her listed as having died 26 May 1878 in Coalville, Summit Co., UT. Did she remarry or move in within another family member? Who are her parents? I have very little on her. Any leads would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I am looking for any recoreds or information on the Pines Ranch which was previously the Pyree ranch until the early 1900 when it was purchased by the Taylor brothers and a number of other gentlemen, including John Mills Whitaker. Mr. Whitaker is my great grandfather and his last child has recently died leaving a question as far as the handling of the cabin and other properties on the Pines Ranch which is located up the Weber canyon on the south side of the canyon where the Smith and Morehouse creek runs. The Weber river runs on the north side of the canyon across from the ranch property. I am aware that John M. Whitaker had work with county officials twice to obtain and maintain water rights for the ranch. One time happened around 1913-1915 I believe. We are curious if Mr. John Mills Whitaker filed any deeds or claims or other such documents in Summit County between say, 1905 and 1960 when Mr. Whitaker passed on. Any help or direction you could pass along would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Donald Peters

John BROWN - arrived in Rockport/Kamas in late 1872 or early 1873 and died in May 1873. He was buried in the old "Indian Cemetery" in Rockport. This cemetery was moved when the Rockport reservoir was built in the 1970's. Where is the cemetery located now? Where are the burial records? Our family research association would like to put a marker on his grave, if we can locate it.

I am interested in any information on George W. BROUGH, born Nov. 1854 IN and died 6 April, 1940 in Park City, UT. The family tradition is that he came to Park City in 1923 after his wife "Liddie" died and was a tavern owner for 30 years. I think that there is an error because 30 years from 1923 makes it 1953 that he would have died. Any help will be greatly appreicated. Thanks.
