Nellie's folks at the time of her marriage resented her choice, not because they had fault with Elias, but that she was taking on the responsibility of six children... Nellie had a marriage proposal from one man with no children, one from one having one child, and one from one having four; so she would jokingly say when she received her proposal from Elias with six children, she thought she had better take it before one with more children came along.
Nellie was known for her dramatic readings. She could recite long readings from memory... Nellie was also a good organ player.
